A. Good News Report

TCS 2025 AP Scores
We are very proud to announce that Laura Turner, Associate Director K-12, NC Advanced Placement Partnership (NCAPP), advised that Transylvania County Schools' 2025 AP scores increased by 2 points!  Seventy-seven percent (77%) of our students earned a qualifying score of 3 or higher.  Ms. Turner said she wanted to celebrate our District's progress as the growth is a real testament to our teachers, students, and staff.  We agree that this esteemed accomplishment should be celebrated!

Stuff the Bus
Transylvania County Schools is very excited to announce our participation in the 2025 Stuff the Bus! campaign.  We are partnering with Transylvania Educational Foundation to provide every student with the school supplies necessary for a productive school year.  A TCS school bus will be parked at three different locations during three separate time periods, as follows:  SavMor parking lot from July 16th through July 23rd; Carolina Smiles parking lot from July 24th through July 30th; and WalMart parking lot from July 31st through August 11th.  The daily drop off times for all of the dates and locations are 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Please see the event flyer and video on our website.  Additionally, some supply lists are available for the different schools and grade levels on our Facebook pages.  We encourage everyone to come together as a community to help our students prepare for what we hope will be our most successful school year, to date. “Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference.” – Kathy Calvin

RHS National Honor Society and Student Council Cayman Islands Excursion
Rosman High School National Honor Society and Student Council members had the opportunity to travel to the Cayman Islands and to work with the National Children’s Voluntary Organization (NCVO), which is a nonprofit that has been dedicated to the care, education, and well-being of local, in-need children and families since 1974.  The students worked on facilities and grounds and, also, on nutrition with children at the NCVO center.  They reported learning about compassion, community, and responsibility.  Thank you post cards and a letter detailing the students’ experiences are posted, and photos from their once-in-a-lifetime trip are available on our TCS Facebook page.

BHS Music Students’ European Adventure
Six Brevard High School students recently served as TCS emissaries as they toured Europe, along with BHS Band Director Mr. Jimeson and the North Carolina Ambassadors of Music.  The young musicians visited several countries, including France, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria.  Pictures of stunning European locales and landmarks the students visited are available on the TCS Facebook page.

Gear Up Summer Camp Experience
Rising 7th and 8th grade students recently got to experience the GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) summer camp.  The program offered a blend of college exposure, academic enrichment, and cultural exploration.  The students travelled to several locations, including Clemson and the Biltmore estate.  Photos of the students’ travels can be viewed on our Facebook page.

2025 Free Summer Meals Program
Beginning the week of June 9, 2025, and continuing through August 14, 2025, Transylvania County Schools will again provide its Summer Food Service Program.  Two meal pick-up sites will be available, with one at Pisgah Forest Elementary School and the other at Champion Park Pool in Rosman.  From noon (12:00 p.m.) until 2:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, each site will provide a hot lunch and a breakfast for the next day.  On Thursdays, weekend breakfast and lunch meals will be provided.  Meals are free to all children of Transylvania County under the age of 18.  Children do not have to qualify for free or reduced lunch to participate, and they do not have to attend Transylvania County Schools.  We request that each family limit itself to just one of the two sites daily.  In addition to the foregoing, the Department of School Nutrition Services is providing meals to 14 other summer program sites in the County between June 9, 2025, and August 22, 2025.  Please see the Free Summer Meals flyers (English and Spanish) on our website for contact and schedule information.
