A. Good News Report

Brevard High School Football – Western Regional Champions!
On Friday, December 5th, the Brevard High School Football Team defeated the Maiden Blue Devils 30-13 to become the Western Regional Champions, also bringing their historic season to 14-0!  The Blue Devils will play in the NCHSAA 4A State Championship game against 12-2 Reidsville at the Lenoir-Rhyne University football stadium on Saturday, December 13th.  This is the Blue Devils’ first trip to the state finals since 1982!

CTE Honor
Director Kerry Putnam represented the District at the December 4th and 5th CTE Fall Directors’ Conference in Greensboro, at which Transylvania County Schools was announced as #1 in the state for CTE Credential Rate Attainment!  In just three short years, TCS has gone from a respectable 6th place showing to the very best.  We congratulate Mr. Putnam and his entire, industrious team for this outstanding achievement.  Please see photos from the Conference posted on our website.

National Technical Honor Society Inductions
NTHS induction ceremonies were held on December 9th and December 10th for Rosman High and Brevard High, respectively.  In order to qualify for membership, students must meet the following rigorous standards:
  • Maintain a 3.0 or higher unweighted overall grade point average;
  • Maintain a 3.25 or higher unweighted grade point average in CTE courses;
  • Be recommended by two teachers, one of whom must be a CTE teacher; and
  • Complete a CTE career pathway.
In addition thereto, the student must demonstrate scholarship, skill, and integrity.  We are very proud to announce that the inductions at Rosman High School included 22 Seniors and 13 Juniors, and Brevard High School had 47 Senior and 29 Junior inductees.  Please join us in congratulating these successful students and our talented CTE staff.  (The complete list of student inductees' names and photographs of both ceremonies can be found on the Transylvania County Schools Facebook page.)

Pisgah Forest Elementary School – Winners!
Pisgah Forest Elementary School won the 3rd Place award for their float in the 54th Annual Downtown Brevard “A Storybook Christmas” Parade on Saturday, December 6th.  Pictures of the float, which included a giant handmade book featuring a personalized PFE Christmas story written by Ms. Bicio and pictures of PFE students who handed out free books and bookmarks to the crowd while walking behind the float, are posted on our website.  Congratulations to PFES for their hard work and winning holiday spirit!

Backpack Buddies
On Thursday, December 11, volunteers from the Ed Center staff, School Nutrition, the Transylvania County Schools Education Foundation, Grace Brevard Church, Brevard Wesleyan, school counselors and social workers, and local volunteers worked at the Education Center from 8:00–11:00 a.m. packing 320 bags of food for students to take home over the Christmas break as part of the TCS Backpack Buddies Program.  Our thanks to everyone for taking the time to help ensure that children have access to nutritious food during the holidays when schools are not in session.
