At the last meeting, Dr. McDaris reported that Section 36.1A of the 2016-2017 Appropriations Act directs local school boards to develop policies to award merit bonuses to LEA personnel who are non-educators for 2016-2017 only. Eligible non-educator personnel include school-based administrators, central office personnel, and noncertified personnel. The bill directs local boards to come up with local policies or plans to guide how the merit-based bonuses are to be given out. It prohibits across-the-board awards of the bonuses. Local boards must report to DPI the details of how the funds are to be distributed by district and school.
The board directed Dr. McDaris and Mr. Weaver to develop at least two options for distribution of the merit bonuses and present them for first reads at the October meeting. Mr. Weaver will present three options for the board’s consideration (see attached). Dr. McDaris and Mr. Weaver will discuss the plans and answer any questions you may have.
Approval of one of the merit-based bonus plans will be requested in November.
