State calendar law requires that schools begin no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26 and close no later than the Friday closest to June 11. If approved for a weather-related waiver, the opening date may be no earlier than the Monday closest to August 19. Transylvania County Schools qualifies for a weather-related calendar waiver for 2020-2021 (see attached). The waiver would allow Transylvania to continue having a mid-week start, a practice that has received much positive feedback from stakeholders.
A motion is in order to approve the calendar waiver request for the 2020-2021 school year.
