At the September 19 board meeting, Dr. McDaris outlined the need for all students to take at least one course in computer science before they graduate.  He believes that adding a computer science credit as a requirement for a TCS diploma is feasible, with many potential options available for students to obtain the credit (see attached).  Dr. McDaris will request that the board approve a minimum of one computer science credit (as defined) as a graduation requirement beginning with this year’s 8th grade class (class of 2027).

If the board approves the request, a motion would be in order to approve the addition of a computer science credit as a graduation requirement for a Transylvania County Schools diploma effective with the graduating class of 2027.
